Hotel Mas Roig is located near the medieval village of Pals, the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter, and some of the most special beaches on the Costa Brava.
The hotel is located in the Roig farmhouse, one of the fortified farmhouses dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, forming one of the most interesting examples of Gothic-Renaissance vernacular architecture in the region. Its location, in the heart of the Empordanet, explains its long tradition of hospitality and its welcoming atmosphere for travelers.
Three cypress trees immediately catch the eye at the entrance. This is no coincidence: in the past, many farmhouses used this symbol to indicate the type of hospitality they could offer. One cypress meant water; two, water and food; and three, in addition, the possibility of staying for a few days.
In farmhouses with three cypress trees, like this one, that hospitality could include lodging in exchange for helping with household chores, the animals, or the crops. The traditional layout also bears traces of that era: the owners occupied the first floor, and the workers and passersby, the upper floor, with separate entrances.
Today, Hotel Mas Roig, formerly known as Es Portal Restaurant & Hotel Boutique, opens a new chapter under the guidance of Rosa Maria Jubany and Diego Guzmán, continuing a philosophy of hospitality where the table takes center stage. Jubany family has been involved in the restaurant business since 1946, when the grandparents established La Masía del Solà as an inn and restaurant, serving traditional Catalan cuisine, offering personalized service, and paying special attention to the quality of the ingredients.
Diego, at the head of the kitchen, brings technique and sensitivity after training with Nandu Jubany, maintaining a clear line: local product, recognizable flavor and just the right amount of creativity.
That journey reached Empordà in 2018 with the addition of Hostal Sa Tuna, and today it is completed with the arrival of Hotel Mas Roig, as the latest addition to a family project that brings together houses with personality, attentive service and an experience linked to the territory.
Surrounded by nature, medieval villages, trails and golf courses, the hotel is also an excellent starting point to discover the Empordà at your leisure and return to a farmhouse where history is evident in the stone… and the present is enjoyed at the table.
